About vehicle classes
The tolls you pay depend on your vehicle’s class and the toll road you use.
In Queensland, a vehicle class is determined by the vehicle’s construction and purpose of use.
Vehicle classes
Motorcycles
Two-wheeled motor vehicles, including trailers & side cars.
Cars
Four-wheel motor vehicles, including ride share and taxis.
Vehicle class remains the same when towing a caravan or trailer.
Light commercial vehicles (LCV)
Motor vehicles that are registered for commercial use and are:
- rigid trucks with two axles or load-carrying vans or utilities, having a gross vehicle mass between 1.5–4.5 tonnes, or
- similar in size to those mentioned above
Heavy commercial vehicles (HCV)
Motor vehicles that are:
- rigid trucks with two axles and a gross vehicle mass 4.5 tonnes or greater
- rigid trucks with three axles or more
- buses
- articulated trucks
- over 30 tonnes in gross vehicle mass
- similar in size to those mentioned above
Updating your vehicle’s purpose of use
If your vehicle’s purpose of use, make, model or ownership changes, it’s your responsibility to let us know. If you don’t, higher tolls may be charged to your account.
