How can we help?

What the tag beeps mean

  • On this page

  • Types of tags
  • Alerts and notifications

Tags make different sounds depending on the status of your Linkt account. Your tag may change its sound to warn you of a problem with your account.

If you have difficulty hearing the sounds your tags makes, you can still use a tag. We'll send you notifications that give you the same information as a tag beep.

Your tag should beep when you pass through a toll point. If it doesn't beep, the tag may be faulty or incorrectly installed.

Please refer to our installation guides and try reinstalling your tag:

  • Installing a tag in a car or light commercial vehicle
  • Installing a tag in a heavy commercial vehicle

Check if your tag is working with our tag health check. If your tag is faulty, you can order a replacement tag online.

Types of tags

The meaning of each beep depends on the type of tag. Compare your tag with each of the following illustrations to find out what they mean.

If your tag looks like this, here's what the beeps mean:

  • 1 beep: There's enough money in your account and you’re good to go.
  • 3 beeps: Your account balance is low. Top up your account as soon as possible to avoid suspension.
  • 4 beeps: Your account has been suspended. Pay the overdue amount as soon as possible or you may receive a toll invoice.
  • 0 beeps: Your tag is incorrectly installed, faulty or has a flat battery. Complete a tag health check

If your tag is faulty, you can order a replacement tag online.

Log in to your account to top up or reactivate your account.

Email alerts and notifications

If you're unable to hear the sounds your tag makes, there are other ways to check your account status. We can send equivalent account status alerts by email, by SMS, or as app notifications.

If your contact details (email address and mobile phone number) are on your account, we’ll automatically notify you by email or SMS when:

  • Your account balance is low
  • Your account is overdue or overdrawn
  • An auto payment fails
  • We detect that your tag isn’t beeping
  • We detect your tag in a vehicle not listed on your account

Download the Linkt app and enable notifications to get these alerts as app notifications.

Check your details are up to date

  • Log in to your account and check your email address and mobile number are up to date
  • If your tag isn’t working or isn’t correctly installed, you may also notice a fee on your statement or trip history called a video matching fee. Check your statements or trip history for video matching fees.
