How can we help?

If your vehicle breaks down

Our cameras monitor traffic conditions 24 hours a day. If you break down or crash, in a tunnel or on a toll road, an incident response team will be sent out right away.

If your vehicle breaks down on a toll road you should:

  1. Stop your vehicle in an emergency stopping lane or breakdown bay
  2. Switch on your hazard lights
  3. If safe to do so, exit the vehicle from the passenger side and wait behind a safety barrier until help arrives
  4. If you need to call for help, contact us using one of the emergency phones, or dial 13 33 31 from your mobile phone

If you can't stop in an emergency lane or breakdown bay you should:

  1. Park as close to the side of the road as possible
  2. Turn on your hazard lights
  3. Stay in your vehicle until help arrives*
  4. If you want to talk to a traffic controller, you can give us a call on 13 33 31 and we can give you updates on the way

*Only exit your vehicle if you break down in an emergency stopping lane or breakdown bay and it’s absolutely necessary. Exit from the passenger side and wait behind a safety barrier until help arrives

If you break down in a tunnel you should:

  1. Drive out of the tunnel or stop in an emergency stopping lane or breakdown bay. Or, if this isn't possible, try to stop in a right or left lane
  2. Turn on your hazard lights and radio. Turn off your engine
  3. Remain in your vehicle unless there’s a fire or you're asked to evacuate by the control room
  4. In an evacuation, look for the running man symbols and flashing lights for a safe exit point

If you need to call for help, use the emergency telephones in the tunnel. Alternatively, you can use your mobile phone to call 13 33 31.

If you break down on EastLink, please call 9955 1400.
