Tunnel air quality and environmental monitoring
Tunnel air quality and environmental monitoring
We're required to meet rigorous air quality measures for operational tunnels, which are reported to and enforced by the relevant environmental authority in each state.
For Sydney, environmental management requirements are set out in the relevant asset Operational Environmental Management Plan (OEMP). Contact us to request a copy of the OEMP.
For most tunnels, we monitor and report on:
- air quality
- visibility
- noise
- groundwater contaminants and levels
We also provide notifications where any exceedance of acceptable levels is detected.
How we monitor air quality
Using several measuring stations in different locations along our tunnels, we continuously monitor and report on the levels of:
- Carbon monoxide (CO)
- Nitrogen Oxide (NO)
- Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)
- Total Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)
- Particulate matter (EG: Smoke, dust)
These metrics may change based on our agreements with governments, and the relevant environmental authority in each state.
