What happens if I don't pay?
If you travel on a toll road without a valid toll account or pass, you'll receive a toll invoice in the mail. Avoid paying additional fees by paying for toll road travel as soon as possible. If payment isn't received, we may need to take further steps.
Payment timeline
The below timeline outlines the events that happen if you do not pay for your toll travel in Victoria.
When you've travelled without a tag, pass or valid account
You have two options to pay for your trip:
- Purchase one of our passes - to pay for your recent travel and cover trips made 3-5 days ago (cover CityLink trips made up to 5 days ago, and EastLink trips made up to 3 days ago.)
- Open an account - to pay for your recent travel and cover trips made up to 9 days ago
If you don't purchase a pass or open an account within 10 days of travel
- You will receive a toll invoice - this will include your toll amount plus an additional $15.76 admin fee. You will have 17 days to pay.
- If you do not pay, you will receive a final toll invoice - this will include your toll amount plus an increased admin fee of $30.76. You will have 16 days to pay.
- If you do not pay, Linkt will contact you for payment - Linkt will try to contact you via either letter, phone, email or SMS. This may include contact from our debt collection agencies.
- If you ignore Linkt, you will then either:
- Start a civil debt recovery process - if you are contacted by a debt collection agency and do not pay, the matter may go to court.
- Receive an infringement notice from Victoria Police for not paying the final toll invoice. The fee will now be $197.59
If you receive an infringement notice
If you receive an infringement notice from Victoria Police, your matter will now be managed by Fines Victoria.
- If you do not pay, you will receive a penalty reminder notice. The fee will increase to $225.99
- If you do not pay, you will receive a final demand notice. The fee will increase to $373.09
- If you do not pay, you will receive an enforcement warrant. The fee will increase to $437.39
- If you do not pay, Fines Victoria could then:
- Suspend your license
- Suspend or prevent vehicle registration
- If you do nothing, the Sheriff's Office could then:
- Seize or sell property
- Clamp your car
- Remove your license plates
- Arrest you
